Jones can play at either fly-half or fullback, and returned to Kingston Park from Border Reivers in the summer of 2007 having earlier spent three seasons with the Falcons academy while studying at Northumbria University.
He made 17 Magners League and four Heineken Cup appearances during his time at Border Reivers, scoring 32 points.
Born in Ashington, Northumberland, he represented England at Under-18s and 19s level before changing allegiance to Scotland, for whom he played in the IRB Under-21s World Cup.
After three years with the Falcons academy Jones tried his hand at the 13-man game by joining Super League side Huddersfield Giants, before returning to union with Border Reivers for the 2006/7 campaign.
His form during the 2007/8 earned him a Scotland 'A' call-up for the 2008 Churchill Cup, scoring a hat-trick on his debut against Argentina 'A' and helping the Scots reach the final of the competition.
In his spare time Jones is a coach with local club, Gosforth RFC.
