Falcons boss Steve Bates today hailed Northumberland, having seen them lift the County Championship Shield at Twickenham on Sunday.
Bates was in the stands as Falcons Development Team players Gavin Beasley, Tim Swinson, Johnny Williams and Rupert Harden helped North to a 25-11 win over Cornwall in the final.

Newcastle director of rugby, Bates, said: "The boys can rightly proud of what was a fantastic effort, and a great advert for North East rugby.

"We have always known what a rich region for talent this has been, but the title is rightful recognition for a great campaign."
