The former South Africa ‘A’ captain joined the Falcons in the autumn of 2006, having been highly recommended by Newcastle legend Marius Hurter.
An abrasive and experienced No.8, Winter played for the Johannesburg-based Lions in the Currie Cup before his move to England, having represented both the Cats and the Sharks at Super 14 level
Standing at 6 foot 3 tall, he is renowned for his pace and skill around the field. A natural leader, Winter has spent much of his career in captaincy roles and has also featured at lock, such is his versatility.
