Local lad Wilson hails from the South Shields area of Tyne and Wear, where he played his junior rugby with the Westoe club.
Making his Falcons first team debut as a youngster in the 2003/4 season, an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury sustained later that year while on England Under-19 World Cup duty ruled him out of most of the 2004/5 campaign.
After a long rehab programme which included returning to Westoe for game time and fitness, he came back to the Falcons first team for the end of the 2004/5 season.
However, a knee injury picked up in the final match against Gloucester ruled him out of the England squad for the Under-21s World Cup in Argentina.
Having helped England Under-21s to the Grand Slam in 2006, he suffered a broken jaw in the final match of the competition which prevented him finishing the season with the Falcons, although he did return to fitness in time to represent England in the Under-21s World Cup in France that year.
Injury was again to limit his involvement in the 2006/7 season, having been selected in the original England Saxons Churchill Cup squad before withdrawing in the build-up to the tournament.
Wilson finally made his Saxons debut in 2008, as he helped them to victories over Ireland A and Italy A, going on to form part of England's Churchill Cup winning squad before earning a call-up as injury cover for England's Test tour to New Zealand.
