| The 22-year-old recently signed a new two-year deal with the Falcons, the first season of which will be spent with the Yorkshire club as the former Scotland Under-21s forward continues to learn his trade.
Falcons director of rugby, John Fletcher, said: “Sean will benefit hugely from the game time he will get at Doncaster throughout this coming season.
“They have made the decision to go full time this year, and with a season of National Division One rugby under his belt we believe Sean will come back a better player with much more game experience under his belt.
“He is a big physical lad who is developing well, we see this loan as part of that process and we are looking forward to working closely with him in the future. Our former player Luke Gross is at Doncaster so we have spoken to him about what sort of environment Sean will be working in, and he had only good things to say.
“The irony is that Sean’s first game for Doncaster will be a pre-season friendly against the Falcons at Kingston Park, which for him in particular will have massive importance attached to it.”
Tomes played a handful of games in National One last season for Otley, having made his Falcons first team debut earlier in the season.
Born and raised in Gateshead, Sean is the son of former Scotland and Lions great Alan Tomes.
