Newcastle Falcons again showed their Sevens prowess at the weekend, as a host of the club’s players helped the KooGa Wailers claim the Rome Sevens title.
Coached by Falcons junior academy manager Mark Laycock, the Wailers thrashed the Samurai International side 40-5 in the final, adding to the Rome event to the Kinsale trophy they won only a few weeks ago.

Falcons players Ollie Phillips, Tim Visser, Ed Williamson, Ross Batty and Cameron Johnston all starred in Rome, as did a number of players who have guested for the Falcons Sevens side in recent seasons including Andrew Skeen, Ralph Smith and Gareth Kerr.

The Falcons Sevens team won three of the four events it entered this season with victories at Hawick, Langholm and Kingston Park, having been beaten by just one try in the final of the Melrose Sevens.

The Falcons will be among the teams on show at Twickenham when the Middlesex Sevens takes place on August 18.
