Matthew Burke's surgery has been a success
9 December 2007, 3:25 pm
Newcastle Falcons fullback Matthew Burke has successfully undergone knee reconstruction surgery in his native Australia.
The Wallaby legend went under the knife after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Guinness Premiership clash against Bath on October 21.

Falcons team doctor, Graeme Wilkes, said: "Matt's surgery went very well, and he is in good spirits.

"We are in regular contact with him, and after a period of having the knee in a brace he will begin the initial phase of his rehab in Australia before returning to Newcastle in the spring for the continuation of that rehab work.

"I think he is enjoying the weather back home, but knowing Matt he would much rather be braving the elements with his Falcons team mates right now.

"He has been inundated with good luck messages ever since suffering the injury, something which has meant a huge amount to him personally and something for which I know he is extremely grateful.

"So from a medical point of view it is all good news with the surgery having gone well, and having spoken to Matt I know just what great determination he has to get back in fantastic shape and back in a Newcastle Falcons shirt."
