| Newcastle Falcons have had a quartet of players named in both the England Six Nations squad and the England Saxons squad. |
World Cup stars Jamie Noon, Mathew Tait, Jonny Wilkinson and Toby Flood are all included in the England training squad ahead of the upcoming Six Nations.
Lee Dickson, Phil Dowson, Ben Woods and David Wilson meanwhile are all named in the Saxons squad to play Ireland A and Italy A in February, with the Saxons team led by Falcons coaching and technical director Steve Bates.
Newcastle director of rugby, John Fletcher, said: “It's fantastic for us as a club to continue to have our players and coaches recognised at international level, and I'm proud of all the players and coaches who will be involved with the two squads.
“All four of our players from the World Cup squad acquitted themselves well and have been retained for the Six Nations, and then to have four more named in the Saxons group is a great endorsement of the quality we have and the way we go about our game.”
Hailing the depth of talent at the club, he added: “We have a number of players knocking on the door extremely close to making this step up.
“Jon Golding at prop is somebody being spoken about for the future if he continues his current form, along with the likes of Geoff Parling, while Andy Buist will be another to put forward a strong case once he returns from injury and pushes for selection in to the Falcons side.
“In addition we have strong representation in the England Under-18s squad with three of our players named last week, and there will be a number of our players named in the Under-20s squad tomorrow as they continue their own development.” |
