Newcastle's Toby Flood scores England's second try
10 February 2008, 2:54 pm
Newcastle Falcons players were to the fore in Rome on Sunday, as they helped England to a 23-19 victory in their Six Nations clash against Italy.
Falcons fly half Jonny Wilkinson manufactured the first try from out of nowhere with a chip over the top and a sublime flip pass for Paul Sackey in the opening minutes.

He added the extras from out wide on the right, before Newcastle team mate Toby Flood scored a try which had the Falcons' hallmark all over it.

Newcastle's Jamie Noon collected a bouncing ball in the Italian 22, offloading to Wilkinson who delivered the scoring pass to Flood to dive over in the right corner.

Wilkinson again added the extras from the right touchline, before firing over two long range penalties to take the half-time score to 20-6.

The Falcons quartet was completed when Mathew Tait entered the field as a second-half blood replacement for Noon, whilst Wilkinson's boot kept the scoreboard ticking over with a 59th minute penalty from 25 metres out.

Falcons director of rugby, John Fletcher, said: "I thought all the Newcastle boys gave good accounts of themselves, as we knew they would, and they can be proud of their efforts in what was a difficult game."
