| KooGa Wailers coach Mark Laycock has included a number of Newcastle Falcons players in his squad for this weekend's Kinsale 7s in Ireland. |
Fresh from their victory in the Langholm 7s last weekend in the Scottish borders the Wailers this week travel to Cork for a tournament which will see a significant step up in quality, as they look to make it a hat-trick of Kinsale titles.
Four of the Falcons' Middlesex Sevens winning squad are included in the form of Ross Batty, Micky Young, Adam Dehaty and Scott Riddell, while Newcastle's young stars Rob Miller and Rory Clegg also form part of the 11-man group.
Blaydon wing Andrew Fenby, who scored nine tries in two games for the Falcons Development XV recently, features for the Wailers, with Laycock stating: “Kinsale looks like being an excellent tournament.
“Last weekend at Langholm we selected a very young squad which acquitted itself magnificently, but with Kinsale being an internationally-renowned Sevens competition we know we have a big step up in terms of quality of opposition.
“The Irish national team is entering, plus a number of other top invitational sides, so we will have to be at our very best to retain the title we have held for the past two years.”
