| The players, coaches, staff and board of Newcastle Falcons have issued a huge thank you to their fans for the manner in which they have supported the club this season, and their backing for their coming campaign. |
With season ticket sales already up on the same time last year, and almost 20,000 supporters having attended matches at Kingston Park in the space of just four days this week, North-East rugby fans have once again shown their magnificent support for the club as another season draws to a close.
Falcons commercial director Mick Hogan said: "The response has been fantastic to our early bird season ticket renewal scheme, up on the same time last year, especially coming so quickly after Wednesday's sell-out fixture against London Wasps.
"We had a capacity crowd of 10,200 on the night, but such was the response that we could have sold somewhere between 13,000 and 15,000 had we had the capacity to accommodate those sorts of numbers.
"This season has seen a record year in terms of corporate support, and all of our hospitality boxes are already sold out for next season as the North-East business community once again gets right behind us."
Having yet again seen tremendous backing from the terraces, Hogan added: "Overall our crowds have been down by five per cent over the whole season compared to the previous year, but this is a trend echoed at most clubs who started the season with lower attendances due to the Rugby World Cup going on at the same time. If you take out the four games we hosted during the World Cup, then our average attendance was actually 8,300, which is up on the previous season.
"Our support on the road has been tremendous with the work our Supporters Club does in organising away travel, and the following for our European Challenge Cup semi-final away at Worcester was something that will stick in the mind for a long time to come.
"I firmly believe we have the best supporters in the country, despite the fact that we might not be from one of the so-called traditional rugby areas.
"Our fans continue to come and support us in ever-greater numbers, and despite what everyone knows has been a disappointing season on the pitch this time round, the number of supporers committing to this club for next season continues to rise.
"So from myself, the chairman Dave Thompson, the directors, staff, coaches and players of Newcastle Falcons, thank you for support this season, and we look forward to seeing you at Kingston Park for the coming campaign." |
