Metro services will be suspended all day on Saturday and on Sunday (October 11-12) between Newcastle Airport and Regent Centre to allow for the replacement of the level crossing at Fawdon Metro station.
A replacement bus service (900) will be in operation between Regent Centre and the airport and will call at all Metro stations along the route.
The Metro service to Sunderland and South Hylton will commence from Regent Centre. The St James to South Shields service is unaffected.
The work at Fawdon station involves digging up the level crossing, replacing sections of rail and laying down a new road crossing surface. It is part of a programme of work to renew the Metro’s level crossings. Similar renewals have already been done at Bank Foot and Callerton Parkway Metro stations.
Metro Director, Mick Carbro, said: “I apologise to passengers for the disruption the work is going to cause. We are getting the job done on Saturday and a Sunday while Metro is quieter in order to inconvenience fewer passengers.
“The work is vital to ensure this section of line remains one of the very best city centre to airport connections in the country.” |
