| Thirty teams from across the North East and Cumbria will compete in the Falcons Community Foundation Land Rover Premiership Cup at Ryton Rugby Club this Sunday. |
Split into U11s and U12s competitions, teams will battle it out to win the chance to attend the Guinness Premiership Final at Twickenham in May, representing Newcastle Falcons on the pitch in front of 82,000 fans.
In addition to this Newcastle Falcons are once again demonstrating their commitment to grass roots rugby by giving every participant the chance to watch the Falcons take on Bath Rugby in their Guinness Premiership game on Sunday 7th March free of charge.
First team stars Mark Sorenson, James Hudson, Carl Hayman and Rob Vickerman will also be attending the festival to show their support for the youngsters, on what promises to be an exciting day for all concerned.
With over 7,000 children, 384 clubs, 45 premiership players, 24 trophies, 12 festivals, 5 months and 2 age groups, it can only be one tournament – the Land Rover Premiership Cup.
Last season saw the start of the Land Rover Premiership Cup, the first tournament of its kind to be officiated by Premier Rugby and run in conjunction with all 12 Premiership clubs across the country. After the success of its inaugural year, in which over 7,000 aspiring young players took part in festivals all over the country, we are looking forward to seeing more young stars battling it out to be crowned regional champions this year.
Land Rover is proud to be the official vehicle of England and Premier Rugby, securing its place as the number one vehicle brand associated with rugby. Grassroots rugby remains a particular focus for Land Rover as it strives to not only support the top echelons of the sport but also provide funds to sustain its future growth. By supplying a Discovery 4 to each Premiership club’s community department and through the Premiership Cup and Premiership Rugby Academy, Land Rover continues to make a key contribution to the successful development of community rugby nationwide.
Falcons Community Foundation Manager, Melanie Magee, said: “We are delighted to be able to run this competition again, after the huge success of the event last season thanks to the fantastic support received from Land Rover.
"Ryton Rugby Club will be fantastic hosts for what promises to be another great day for competitors, coaches, organisers and spectators alike. The Falcons are committed to providing opportunities for young people across the North East and Cumbria to participate in our great sport and have the chance watch top flight rugby on their doorstep.”
