Adam was born and raised in Newcastle, where he attended Dame Allan's School.
As part of the Falcons 500 Club-funded annual scheme, he spent the 2003/4 season in New Zealand with the Mahurangi club, coached by former Falcons academy manager Paul Mackinnon.
He returned to become a key figure for the Falcons development team in 2004/5, and even made his first team debut in that season as he came on from the bench in the home win over London Wasps.
Adam went on to become capped for England Under-21s, featuring in the Under-21 World Cup in Argentina.
